below is some information for you to decide the best suited cctv system for your particular requirement.

CCTV DVRs are based on computer technology and as such they record images on an internal hard drive. With these recorders you do not need to change tapes or video cassettes and as all the recording are done on the HD video images are always as good as day one.
DVRs normally come  with three different specification which obviously affects the price.
if you are only interested in local onsite viewing, then you can go for the cheaper Jpeg DVRs. these DVR product good image and different makes have different features which of course is reflected in the price again. , for example , some have remote control, on some you can back up your CCTV evidence and video images on USB memory sticks, some have CD writer, some you can only make copies of your recording via connection to a pc or ordinary  home DVD recorder, and so on.
If your intention are to view the cctv images over the internet from home or another pc then you will need to go for a Mpeg4 or H264 compression DVR. These offer better compression rate which in turn offer faster movement of images over internet. These CCTV DVRs normally come with more features for back up, etc and of course this is reflected in their price which is higher than Jpeg DVRs. These CCTV DVRs specially H264 compression ones enables you to record more video images  on a smaller size hard drive than Jpeg DVR,
Basically, given a certain size of hard drive, Mpeg4 offer twice the recording length of Jpeg and H264 offers twice the recording length of Mpeg4. Therefore a H264 CCTV DVR offers you four times the recording time of a Jpeg recorder.

CCD V Cmos: The image quality of CCTV cameras are determined by the quality of the internal electronics and image sensors. there are Cmos sensor cameras which are very cheap and the image quality is really terrible with lots of colour bleed and unclear images. There are also CCD cameras which produce much better colour definition and image quality, apart from the unbranded CCD cameras , there are cameras that have sensors made by Sharp , Panasonic and Sony. Cameras That have Sony Sensors seem to produce the best image quality and are more expensive than Panasonic or Sharp. BUT you must be aware that there are some Supposedly Sony CCD cameras that are NOT Sony at all, in other words they are FAKE!!. Therefore you must always buy your CCTV Cameras from Reputable and accredited Supplier.

TV LINES: another factor affecting CCTV cameras both in Cmos Format and CCD is the TV Lines.
(this is the number of horizontal lines that that produce images. CCTV cameras come in 380 TVL, 420 TVL, 480 TVL, 520 TVL and 540 TVL. The higher the TVL the more expensive is the camera.  However the higher the TVL does not necessarily means better quality images this is due to the fact that monitor or TVs need only 380 TVL anyway so a 420 TVL camera is more than enough for a good image quality . BUT it must be mentioned that one advantage of high TVL camera is that the higher the TVL the better definition in the dark or deem condition. So for example in a night club a 520 TVL camera is more suited than  420 TVL. Under for example fluorescent lights 420 TVL camera is more than sufficient, so you don't need to pay more to get 540TVL cameras.
